What are AWWA C207 flanges?
AWWA C207 flanges are flanges that are designed to meet the specifications of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) standard C207, which covers steel ring flanges for waterworks service. These flanges are typically used in waterworks piping systems to connect pipe sections or to connect pipes to other equipment, such as valves or pumps. They are typically made from carbon steel and are available in a range of sizes and pressure ratings to suit different applications.
Advantages and disadvantage of AWWA C207 flanges
AWWA C207 flanges are designed and manufactured according to the American Water Works Association’s standards for steel flanges. These flanges are known for their strength and durability, making them suitable for use in a wide range of water-related applications.
Advantages of AWWA C207 flanges
One of the main advantages of AWWA C207 flanges is that they are designed to withstand high pressure and can be used in a variety of piping systems, including those used for drinking water, wastewater, and irrigation. These flanges are also easy to install and can be used with a wide range of pipe materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel. Another advantage of AWWA C207 flanges is that they are made from high-quality materials and are subjected to strict quality control standards, which helps ensure that they will perform reliably and last for many years. Additionally, these flanges are available in a range of sizes, which makes it easy to find the right flange for your specific application.
Disadvantage of AWWA C207 flanges
One potential disadvantage of AWWA C207 flanges is that they are made from steel, which can rust over time if not properly maintained. This means that if these flanges are used in applications where they are exposed to water, they will need to be regularly inspected and maintained to prevent corrosion. In some cases, this may require the use of protective coatings or other measures to prevent rusting. The main advantages of AWWA C207 flanges are their strength, durability, and versatility, while the main disadvantage is the potential for corrosion if not properly maintained. These flanges are suitable for a wide range of applications, but it is important to consider the potential for rusting and take appropriate measures to prevent it.
AWWA Flange Standards Vs. ANSI Flange Standards
AWWA flange standard and ANSI flange standard are two main flange standards, both of which are widely used in connection of pipeline system. However, there are many differences between the two. First of all, AWWA flange standards are formulated by the American Water Association and are mainly used for connection of pipeline systems in the United States. The ANSI flange standard is formulated by the American National Standards Institute, and is widely used in the connection of piping systems in North America. It can be seen that the application scope of AWWA flange standard is smaller than that of ANSI flange standard. Secondly, AWWA flange standards are mainly applicable to water supply pipeline systems, while ANSI flange standards are applicable to various types of pipeline systems, including water supply, drainage, gas, steam, chemical, etc. This also means that the application scope of AWWA flange standard is narrower than ANSI flange standard. AWWA flange standards specify the design and manufacturing requirements of flanges, including flange size, materials, surface treatment, joint form and performance indicators. ANSI flange standards pay more attention to the installation and operation requirements of flanges, such as installation distance, installation position, support mode, removal method, etc. The AWWA flange standard specifies the surface treatment method of the flange, including anti-corrosion coating, hot galvanizing and electro galvanizing. ANSI flange standard does not specify the surface treatment method of flange, and carbon steel flange is generally hot-dip galvanized. In addition, AWWA flange standards and ANSI flange standards also have some differences in flange dimensions. The flange dimensions in AWWA flange standards are mainly divided into three types, namely 12 inch, 16 inch and 24 inch. Among them, 12 inch and 16 inch are mainly used for small pipe systems, and 24 inch are used for medium and large pipe systems. The flange dimensions in ANSI flange standards are more complex, which are mainly divided into 6 types, namely 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500 and 2500. However, AWWA standards also specify some special dimensions, such as “oversize flange” and “oversize flange”, for special applications.
What are the different types of AWWA C207 flanges?
AWWA C207 flanges are flanges that are designed to meet the standards set by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for use in water supply systems. The standard has specified two general types of flange:
(1) Ring-type slip-on flanges, also known as ring flanges or plate flanges.
(2) Blind flanges. Both the ring flange and blind flange are steel flanges without hub.
(3) Hub flange. Hub flanges and hubbed slip-on welding flanges are similar in shape. The AWWA C207 flange can be further classified into four classes according to its working pressure limit: Class B (86 psi), Class D (175-150 psi), Class E (275 psi), Class F (300 psi). The pressure limits are for conditions and temperatures customary in water utility service.
- Class D flanges: These flanges are designed for use with steel pipe and are the most common type of AWWA C207 flange. They are available in sizes ranging from 4 inches to 144 inches in diameter.
- Class E flanges: These flanges are designed for use with ductile iron pipe and are similar to Class D flanges in terms of size and design.
- Class F flanges: These flanges are designed for use with asbestos cement pipe and are available in sizes ranging from 4 inches to 48 inches in diameter.
- Class H flanges: These flanges are designed for use with plastic pipe and are available in sizes ranging from 4 inches to 48 inches in diameter.
- Class J flanges: These flanges are designed for use with concrete pipe and are available in sizes ranging from 4 inches to 144 inches in diameter.
Material of AWWA C207 Flanges
AWWA C207 flanges are typically made from cast or forged carbon steel, stainless steel, or other alloy materials. The specific material used will depend on the application and the design specifications of the flange. It is important to choose the right material for a flange to ensure that it is strong and durable enough to handle the pressure and temperature conditions it will be subjected to in service.

Size of AWWA C207 flanges
AWWA C207 flanges are available in a range of sizes, from 4 inches to 144 inches in diameter. The size of the flange you need will depend on the specific application and the size of the piping system it will be used with. It’s always best to consult with a professional or refer to the specific standards for your project to determine the appropriate size for your needs.
Dimensions of AWWA C207 flanges
AWWA C207 flanges are pipe flanges that are used in the American Water Works Association (AWWA) standard C207 for steel pipe flanges. The dimensions of these flanges are specified in the standard, which is available from the AWWA. The standard covers a range of sizes, from 26 inches to 144 inches in diameter. The dimensions of the flanges depend on the size of the pipe and the pressure rating of the flange, which are both specified in the standard. The dimensions of AWWA C207 flanges are specified in inches. The flange size is the outside diameter of the flange, and the pressure rating is the maximum allowable pressure that the flange can handle. The standard also specifies the bolt circle diameter, bolt hole diameter, and the number of bolts for each size and pressure rating of the flange. For example, a 26-inch flange with a Class D pressure rating has an outside diameter of 31.75 inches, a bolt circle diameter of 27.25 inches, and a bolt hole diameter of 1.25 inches. It uses 8 bolts, and the bolts are spaced 45 degrees apart. These dimensions are specified in the standard and are used to ensure that the flange fits properly and can handle the specified pressure.

Manufacturing process of Flanges
Flanges are usually made of carbon steel, stainless steel or special steel. The manufacturing process of flanges usually includes the following steps: First, raw materials are cut to a certain size and heated to high temperature in the furnace. This helps soften the material, making it easier to form. Next, the heated material is placed in the mold and pressed or crushed into the desired shape. This forming process is called forging. Flange blanks usually need heat treatment after forging to improve their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Common heat treatment methods include annealing, tempering and quenching. Annealing is to maintain the flange blank at a certain temperature for a period of time to eliminate the internal residual stress and improve the plasticity and toughness of the material. The flange blank after annealing has higher mechanical properties and lower brittleness, but it also reduces the hardness of the material. Tempering is to reheat the flange blank to a certain temperature after annealing to restore the internal grain structure of the material to the original state and improve the hardness and strength of the material. The flange blank after tempering has higher mechanical properties and lower plasticity. Quenching is to reheat the flange blank to a certain temperature after annealing and tempering, so that the grain structure inside the material can form smaller crystals, and improve the hardness and strength of the material. The quenched flange blanks have higher mechanical properties and lower plasticity and toughness. Annealing, tempering and quenching are three common methods of heat treatment, and appropriate heat treatment methods can be selected according to the performance requirements of flange blanks. After heat treatment of flange blanks, check the defects, and then machine them to achieve the precise dimensions and tolerances specified in the design. This may involve drilling bolt holes and machining the surface to obtain a smooth surface. After the flange is processed, additional finishing processes, such as heat treatment or electroplating, can be carried out to improve its strength and durability. Finally, the flange is checked for the last time to ensure that it meets all quality standards, and then it is packaged and shipped to the customer. In general, the flange manufacturing process may be very complex, requiring specialized equipment and skilled workers to produce high-quality products.
Marking of AWWA C207 Flanges
Flanges are marked with several important information to determine their specifications and suitability for different applications. This marking usually includes:
- Flange type: indicates the type of flange, such as welding neck, sliding sleeve or thread.

- Pressure rating: This indicates the maximum pressure that the flange can withstand, usually measured in pounds per square inch (PSI).
- Dimensions: Flange dimensions are usually expressed in inches or millimeters and may include nominal dimensions and bolt circle diameters.
- Flange grade: flange grade indicates the accuracy grade of flange manufacturing and dimensional tolerance. The higher the grade is, the higher the quality is.
- Manufacturer’s name or logo: used to identify the company manufacturing the flange.
- Heat number or serial number: This is the unique identification number assigned to the flange during manufacturing.
- Country of Origin: refers to the manufacturing place of the flange.
- Any other certification or standard to which flanges conform, such as AWWA C207.
For example: YAANG AWWA C207-07 ASTM A182 UNS S31603 Class F-Ring Flange 48″ Pressure Rating 300 psi
Packing of AWWA C207 Flanges
AWWA C207 flanges are typically packaged in wooden crates or boxes to ensure protection during shipping. The flanges are carefully placed inside the crate and additional cushioning material, such as foam or bubble wrap, may be used to prevent damage. The crate is then sealed and labeled for easy identification and handling.
Inspection and measurement of AWWA C207 flanges
AWWA C207 flanges are flanges designed and manufactured by American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standard C207. This standard specifies the dimensions, materials, and other requirements for flanges used in water systems. To ensure that AWWA C207 flanges meet the requirements of the standard, they must be inspected and measured using appropriate methods and tools. Some key aspects of the AWWA C207 flange inspection and measurement process include:
