What are weldoflanges?

The weldoflange combines a welded neck flange and a so-called weldolet. On the main pipe side, the weldoflange is designed like a weldolet. This means that the branch connection on the main pipe side is a welded connection. It has a flange connection. Weldo flange connections can be designed according to customer requirements (DIN or ANSI). It is used to connect reinforcement fittings. It replaces the traditional connection. The body of the weldoflange is made of high-quality forging.

Weldoflanges are mainly used for welding because they provide a strong seal between two pipes.
How to welding a weldoflange correctly?
There are several steps to consider when properly welding weldoflange. First, you need to make sure that both surfaces of the tubing are properly cleaned before you begin welding, so there is no debris or dirt on the surface that could interfere with the welding process. Secondly, you need to use the correct type of filler metal when welding the weldoflange; this should be determined by the materials being welded together, as different metals require different filler metals for the best results. Finally, you also need to make sure that you are applying the right amount of heat to the process so that your joint will be strong when it is finished.
Weldoflanges are also commonly used in cooling towers, water systems, gas pipelines, fire sprinkler systems, chemical plants, power plants, piping systems, mining operations, etc.

  • In cooling towers and water systems, weldoflanges connect pipes and equipment to circulate water or other cooling fluids. In gas pipelines, flanges connect pipeline sections and allow for easy maintenance and repair.
  • In fire sprinkler systems, weldoflanges connect pipes and valves that distribute water for fire suppression.
  • In chemical plants, weldoflanges connect pipes and valves that handle various chemicals and corrosive materials.
  • In power plants, weldoflanges are used in various applications such as steam, water, fuel, and exhaust systems.
  • In mining operations, weldoflanges connect pipes and equipment for transporting water, slurry, and other materials.

Quality Standard for Weldoflanges

There are several standards that specify the specifications of weldoflange, including BS-4504, EN1092-1 and DIN-2527. BS-4504 weldoflange is an earlier specification, which is now covered by EN1092-1. This standard specifies a series of steel flanges of size and pressure class, including the requirements for weldoflange. DIN-2527 weldoflange is a standard widely used in various environments, with various materials available.
Class 150 LBS weldoflange can withstand pressure up to 285psi, and there are different materials to choose from, such as the highly corrosion-resistant standard MSS-SP-44 weldoflange. The size of ANSI 150 weldoflange can vary, and customers can choose the appropriate size according to their specific application.
The change of ASME B16.47 weldoflange is usually used for air pollution control and scrubber, which requires the use of flange capable of withstanding high temperature and harsh chemical environment. The change of these weldoflanges is to meet the specific requirements of these applications.

The size and specifications of a weldoflange should always be carefully considered to ensure that it can effectively and safely handle the specific requirements of the application. In addition to material, pressure rating, and temperature rating, other important factors to consider may include corrosion resistance, chemical compatibility, and the type of fluid or gas being transported.

Dimensions of Weldoflanges

weldoflanges are available in various dimensions and pressure ratings. The flange dimensions are typically specified by the nominal pipe size (NPS), flange facing type, and pressure class. Common NPS sizes for weldoflanges range from DN 15 to DN 200. The facing types can be flat face, raised face, or RTJ (ring type joint). The dimensions and tolerances for weldoflanges are specified in the standard.

  • Raw material inspection – The key raw material used to produce flanges is billet or hot rolled bar stock. All raw materials purchased are supplied with test reports in accordance with British Standards with full traceability. This is the first mandatory step in the flange production process to ensure good quality. The raw materials are retested in-house to ensure chemical composition, mechanical properties and metallographic analysis.
  • Cutting of raw materials – Correct and strict control of cutting sizes and proportions ensures full cost control.
  • Heating – This is a very important step for the quality of the flanges. It is necessary to keep detailed records of heating temperatures to avoid overheating. Overheating can damage the structure of the metal and the mechanical properties of the raw material.
  • Forging – The forging process is divided into free forging and die forging. The forging time and strength of flanges vary for different pressure classes.
  • Heat treatment-The purpose of heat treatment is to eliminate the stress inside the flange and make the density more uniform. Careful recording of heat treatment temperature and cooling time is the key.
  • Inspection of forging blanks – After the heat treatment process, select batch samples are tested again for chemical composition and mechanical properties to ensure that all items pass.
  • Machining of forging blanks – During machining, inspection is performed along with machining to ensure that each part of the flange is qualified. Machining is performed on CNC and/or lathes.
  • Finished Product Inspection – The finished product will be inspected 100% prior to delivery to ensure that the goods meet VSM, ASME, EN or customer standards.
  • Documented Documentation – The entire production process and quality checks at different levels are documented according to VSM compliant standard operating procedures. This is the guarantee of good quality.
  • Test certificates: As we are an VSM and PED certified manufacturer, we can issue test certificates for all goods upon delivery and inspection in accordance with British Standards.
  • Packaging: All forgings and flanges are packed in wooden boxes or crates or pallets to ensure safe movement of the goods.

Marking of Weldoflanges

The marking of weldoflanges usually includes the following information:

  • Manufacturer’s name or trademark.
  • Material grade or specification, such as ASTM A105, A234 WPB, A182 F316, etc.
  • Nominal pipe size (NPS) and schedule or wall thickness
  • Type of weldoflange, such as Weldolet, Sockolet, Thredolet, etc.
  • Branch or outlet size, which is the smaller size of the weldoflange
  • Pressure rating or class, such as 150#, 300#, 600#, 900#, 1500#, etc.
  • Heat number or batch number for traceability and quality control purposes.

The marking may also include additional information, such as the manufacturing standard, inspection certificate, and date of production. It is important to ensure that the weldoflange markings comply with the applicable codes and standards, and that they are clearly visible and legible for easy identification and traceability.

Inspection and measurement of Weldoflanges

There are several factors that need to be considered when inspecting and measuring weldoflanges, including:

Material
The first thing to inspect in a weldoflange is the material. The standard specifies that the flanges should be made from materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel. The material should be free from any defects such as cracks, porosity, or inclusions that can affect the integrity of the flange.
Dimension
The next thing to inspect in a weldoflange is its dimension. The standard specifies the dimensions of the flanges based on their nominal size and pressure rating. The flanges should be inspected for their inside and outside diameter, thickness, and overall dimensions to ensure they meet the requirements of the standard.
Surface Finish
The surface finish of a flange is also important. The standard specifies that the flanges should have a smooth and even surface finish to ensure proper sealing of the gasket. Any roughness or irregularities on the surface of the flange can lead to leaks in the piping system.
Bolt Hole Alignment
The bolt holes in a flange should be aligned properly to ensure the bolts can be inserted and tightened correctly. The bolt holes should be inspected to ensure they are in the correct position and are not misaligned.
Bolt Hole Size
The size of the bolt holes is also important. The standard specifies the size of the bolt holes based on the nominal size and pressure rating of the flange. The bolt holes should be inspected to ensure they are the correct size and are not damaged.
Bolt Hole Thread
The threads in the bolt holes are important to ensure the bolts can be screwed in and tightened properly. The threads should be inspected to ensure they are clean and free from any damage or defects.

To inspect and measure weldoflanges, you will need a set of calipers or a micrometer to accurately measure the dimensions of the flange. It is also a good idea to have a torque wrench on hand to ensure that the bolts are tightened to the correct torque specification.

Identify the Flange Face Type
Flange face types refer to the surface finish of a flange, and there are many different types of flange face finishes, including flat face (FF), raised face (RF), ring-type joint (RTJ), tongue and groove (T&G), male and female face (M&F). Each type of flange face has its unique characteristics and is suitable for different applications.

  • Flat face (FF): This type of flange face has a flat, smooth surface that is perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. It is typically used for low-pressure applications and when the sealing is achieved by a gasket.
  • Raised face (RF): This type of flange face has a raised ring on the surface that surrounds the bolt holes. The ring provides a surface for the gasket to rest on, which helps to create a better seal. It is commonly used in applications with moderate pressure.
  • Ring joint face (RTJ): This type of flange face has a specially designed groove to accommodate a metallic ring gasket. The groove is cut into the surface of the flange, and the gasket sits in the groove to create a tight seal. This type of flange face is typically used in high-pressure applications.
  • Tongue and groove face (T&G): This type of flange face has a raised tongue on one flange and a matching groove on the other flange. The tongue fits into the groove, creating a tight seal without the need for a gasket. This type of flange face is often used in applications where high pressure and temperature are involved.
  • Male and Female Face (M&F): This type of flange face is similar to the tongue and groove face. However, it has a male and female end which creates a face to face contact between two flanges. This type of flange is mainly used for low pressure and low temperature applications.

To identify a specific flange face type, you need to provide me with more information, such as the flange’s application, dimensions, and material.
Determine the Weldoflange Size and Pressure Class
